In 2010, the KansasCity Chinese American Association (KCCAA) established an annual KCCAA Community Service Award to encourage elementary and secondary school students in the greater Kansas City area to develop a stronger awareness of, and to inspire active participation in, community service. In the past several years, we have seen an increasing number of young students engaging in volunteer work, particularly under the leadership of KCCAA Youth Hope Fund. More and more young people have experienced the personal satisfaction of helping others. In order to honor their selfless efforts and to encourage others to follow their examples, KCCAA will recognize some of their most outstanding efforts to help others in our community. There will be three levels of recognitions: one first place, two second places, and three third places, evaluated based on the criteria below. To emphasize the fundamental rewards of community service, the awardees will be given plaques, scholarships, and will be announced during the KCCAA’s Chinese New Year Gala (online).
This award may be offered to any primary or secondary school student in the greater Kansas City area. Any qualified student may apply.

Requirements: an applicant must – 

1.    Be an elementary or secondary school student(grades 1 through 12).

2.    Have participated in some form of volunteer work orcommunity service (without compensation) during the past year. 

Evaluation criteria for awards:

·      Activities that emphasize service to others in need will be valued over experiences designed primarily as learning experiences for the applicant. The substance and impact of service will carry more weight than the number of hours served.

·      Initiative and leadership in the organization of group efforts to serve others will also be taken into consideration. Fundraising activities to benefit others will carry considerable weight in the judge’s decisions. However, direct service to others may be viewed as having more enduring significance. The age of the applicant will be taken into consideration by the judges.   

Application procedures:

Submit an application letter by email to kccaa.award@gmail.com by February 6, 2021.  

The application letter should include the student’s name, school, andcontact information for their school. KCCAA 堪城中美联合会美国抗疫捐赠总结

COVID-19一路肆虐， 3月中旬冠状病毒疫情席卷全球。在来势汹汹的病毒面前， KCCAA再次作出迅速的反应，3月21日在堪城华人社区率先发出倡议书，呼吁号召华 人朋友们携手共抗病毒，为守护我们的家园尽我们的绵薄之力。这一倡议立刻得到了 大家的积极响应，到目前为止，KCCAA总共收到1万7千多美元的捐款以及5900个医护口 罩的捐赠。在此也对各捐赠人和捐赠单位表示由衷的敬意和感谢!KCCAA深知管理 好和使用好每一笔捐款赠物的职责所在，几个月来倾注全力，统筹兼顾，根据疫情的 具体状况，已经组织并完成了十多次捐赠活动，用我们的爱心去感染和鼓励大家一起 抗疫。我们也非常感谢本地多家电台，电视台，报纸和其他新闻媒体对这一系列来自 华人社区的善举的及时报道，大大提高了华人及华人社团在当地的影响力。下面是我 们今年从3月到6月间的活动总结和爱心捐赠报告，同时，我们也再次向所有参加这次 活动的爱心人士致以崇高的敬意和衷心的感谢!

1.KCCAA 抗疫捐款报告:(03/21/2020—07/10/2020)

2. KCCAA捐赠活动报告:(03/21/2020—07/10/2020)

   1) 为KC Children’s Mercy Hospital 的医务人员捐赠了8000个医用口罩。 救死扶伤的白衣天使们奋不顾身地战斗在第一线，他们一直是KCCAA 关注的目标之 一，当得知KC Children’s Mercy Hospital的医护人员严重缺乏口罩时，KCCAA立刻联系安排，给他们捐赠了8000个口罩以解燃眉之急。

   2)为University of Kansas Medical Center 捐赠了$6000。

因为University of Kansas Medical Center对捐赠物品口罩等有特别的单位配置和要求，KCCAA与堪城乐乐艺术团联手组织本地的6家华人社团，一起为University Of Kansas Medical Center 捐赠了现金 2.6万，其中KCCAA捐赠6000 美金。

   3) 雪中送炭捐赠了5000个口罩给Johnson County Health Partnership Clinic。

   4) 给Shawnee Mission Medical Center的医务人员捐赠了价值2520美元的爱心晚餐。

    Shawnee Mission Medical Center 是Johnson County地区收治最多冠状病毒患者的医 院，医务人员争分夺秒全力救治病员。KCCAA组织安排并捐赠了价值2520美元的爱 心晚餐，来表达大家对白衣天使们的由衷感激。

   5) 捐赠2000个口罩给Kansas City Hospitalists 的Menorah分部。

   6) 捐赠现金$2000给 White Plain Hospital in New York ，参与美国华人爱心联盟ACAU，支援纽约重灾区。

   7) 给 Love Literacy Life的孩子们捐赠了$1000, 因为疫情，学校关闭了，KCCAA及时捐赠了1000美元给那些没有了午餐的贫困孩子

   8) 给Love Literacy Life的那些居住在贫困社区的孩子们捐赠 了1000个口罩，让他们也能积极响应州政府颁发的居⺠带口罩的规定。

   9) 捐赠了1000个口罩给Kansas City警察局总部。 疫情并没有能中断警察们的工作，他们依然仍然出现在某一个需要他们的地方! KCCAA 也关注着这些可敬可亲的警察们，连续几次给他们送去了爱心口罩。

   10) 捐赠了200个口罩给 Lee’s Summit (MO) 警察局

   11) 捐赠了300个口罩给KC警察局总部。

   12) 1000个口罩捐赠给了老人院 IndianCreekHealth爱你的Rehabilitation，用于帮助老人 响应州政府颁发居⺠带口罩的规定。

   13) 500 个口罩捐赠给老人院 Bickford Senior Living， MO，帮助老人响应州政府颁发居 ⺠带口罩的规定。

   14) 在疫情期间，我们社区痛失了江正彬和刘艳华两位华人朋友， KCCAA从自己账户中 拿出现金$800给两家人送去温暖。

病毒无情，人间有爱!让我们心连心，手挽手，用我们各自的微薄之力共筑一道抗疫 ⻓堤!让我们一起努力，战胜病毒!…

KCCAA支援抗疫总结（4月28日-5月8日）

3月中旬，冠状病毒在美国爆发， KCCAA中美联合会以迅疾的反应力，倡导社区华人捐款支援美国本土抗疫，并采取高效的执行力一边捐款一边购买急需医用物资，紧急支援多家KC医院和纽约地区医院，具体捐赠情况每周我们都有与大家详细汇报，需要了解详情访问KCCAA网站 www.kccaa.org 查找。以下是这两周的总结：

1）由于近期医护防护用品陆续到位，医院已经可以自行解决，我们把后期收到的捐款， 在最近两周联合宝翎中餐馆(Bo Lings Chinese Restaurant)给Johnson County地区收治最多新冠病毒的医院 Shawnee Mission Medical Center送去了价值$2520的爱心晚餐，这份来自华人社区源源不断的真情，表达了华人社区对一线医护工作者们的支持和爱心。大难面前，让我们和社区各界一起同心协力尽我们所能为战胜病毒做贡献。值得一提的是宝翎中餐馆在此之前已经为KCPD提供了2000份的午晚餐，衷心感谢宝翎中餐馆为KC一线工作的英雄们送去美味的佳肴。

 

2）同时我们了解到一些平困家庭，由于学校关闭，平日接受免费学校午餐的孩子没有食物，急需社会的救助，于是我们捐款$1000 给 Love Literacy Life， 他们帮助我们购买大量所需食品，用于分发给Mark Twain Elementary, Sliver City Elementary 和McKinley Elementary 三所小学急需帮助的孩子们。

这所有的一切善举，凝聚了大家的爱心，KCCAA衷心感谢大家的支持，未来的日子将继续用仁爱慈善之心，用行善积德之举与大家一起守护我们的美丽家园。…
